Only 60km west of the hotel lies one of Iceland’s most beautiful valleys surrounded by mountains and the lofty glaciers ofthe Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull. There are two huts at the head of the valley, which is richly clad with birch trees.Once in the valley you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity while absorbing the magnificent scenery or follow waymarked trails. Half way back down the valley you should not miss the impressive gorge,Stakkholtsgjá, with its narrow entrance and high walls. þórsmörk is only accessible to 4-wheel drive vehicles on account of the innumerable stream crossings. Small rented cars are not permitted on this road. However there is a daily bus service into and out of the valley, which you can meet by Seljalandsfoss.
