- Reynisfjara

Garðar is the southernmost farm in Iceland and once launched open fishing boats from this steep beach. When huge waves crash onto the shore it is easy to believe that you have 10,000 miles of open ocean between you and Antarctica. Looking west towards the natural rock arch of Dyrhólaey the scene often has a magical quality created by the ocean spray and tricks of light. The cliffs here are composed of ‘organ pipes’ of columnar basalt bounded by caves. Offshore two giants (Reynisdrangur) have been turned to stone while attempting to drag Iceland away to the open ocean. You can readily pick out this location from the hotel.
